Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Steinsvik Fjordhytter? Steinsvik Fjordhytter is located in Steinsvik in Dalsfjord in Volda municipality. This is on the northwest coast of Norway, in the Sunnmøre region. If you are coming from the east, you may need to take the ferry from Volda to Folkestad to get to Dalsfjord. If you are coming from the south, you will probably pass the village of Nordfjordeid. Continue towards Folkestad and then take the steep road to the left just before you get to the ferry to Volda. Steinsvik is the village at the inner end of the fjord, about 22 km from Folkestad. You can't miss it. When you pass the blue sign that says "Steinsvik", our cabins are the first you see on both sides of the road (180 meters from the sign). If you use Google Maps, you can follow the directions. Can I bring my pet? As a general rule, we do not allow furry animals in the cabins. The reason for this is that the next guest may be allergic. Where can I get petrol for the boats? There are fuel pumps (diesel and petrol) by Coop Marked in Folkestad and Lauvstad. But don't worry, you don't have to drive that far. We have a small storage with petrol cans that we sell at cost price. You can order petrol for the boats via the tablet in the fish house and we will bring it directly to you. Can I charge my electric car? We only have regular sockets in the cabins, but we have a proper car charger at our farm in Steinsvik (500 meters from the cabins). For a small fee we can let you charge your car there. What channels are on TV? We have the usual Norwegian channels and German satellite TV channels, and both cabins also have Netflix and Chromecast so you can stream TV shows from your phone/tablet. There is also a Super Nintendo in each cabin! How much fish can I take home? From January 1, 2021, tourists are only allowed to take fish out of the country if they stay at a registered fishing camp. Steinsvik Fjordhytter is a registered fishing camp, so you are allowed to bring 18 kg of fish. To do this, you must fill out an online form (GoFish) when fishing. Instructions for this are printed in the cabins and the fishing house. It is a simple process. When you leave, you will receive a signed document from us. You can show this document to the customs officers at the border. Note that the quota is hotly debated in Norway, so the regulations can change at any time. There is nothing we can do about it except to express our dissatisfaction to the politicians. How do I get to Steinsvik? The easiest way to get here is to drive your own car. We have plenty of parking spaces in front of both cabins. Unfortunately, there is no longer any public transport to and from Steinsvik. During the summer, we can pick you up in Folkestad if you manage to get there yourself. It is a short ferry ride from Volda, the largest village nearby. You can take a bus to Volda from both Bergen and Oslo. There is also a small airport in Ørsta (HOV) operated by Widerøe, with connections to and from Oslo (OSL), Bergen (BGO) and Sogndal (SOG). |
How do I book a cabin? The easiest way is to reserve the dates directly in our online booking system. At the bottom of each site (Neset and Hamna) you will find a calendar and a booking form. You can also use our online contact form, call us on +47 90074785 or send an email to booking@steinsvik.com. If you have any questions, you can contact us at any time. What time is check-in and check-out? In order to be able to thoroughly clean the cabins between each visit, we need a few hours to do this. Check-out is at 11 am and check-in is at 3 pm. By prior arrangement, we can be flexible for check in earlier or check out later. Please send us a message and we will see what we can arrange. What do I need to bring? Both cabins have a fully equipped kitchen, but consumables are not included. There is a basic supply of toilet paper, soap, coffee capsules, etc., but if you are staying for a week or more, you should bring more of this. We provide dishwashing capsules and trash bags free of charge. Let us know if you run out. Most guests bring their own bed linens and towels, but you can rent these from us for an additional fee. If you want to use the fireplace, we can sell you bags of firewood at a reasonable price. Where can I buy groceries? There are a few small grocery stores (Coop Marked) in Lauvstad and Folkestad, at both ends of the fjord. If you want a bigger selection and more shops, you will either need to take the ferry from Folkestad to Volda (40 minutes by car + ferry) or drive to Nordfjordeid (50 minutes, no ferry). Both Volda, Ørsta and Nordfjordeid have a wide range of different shops, services and restaurants. If you need help finding something in specific, please let us know and we will direct you to the right place. Which outdoor area belongs to the cabin? Steinsvik Fjordhytter owns the marina, the breakwater and the area around both cabins. The marina, the breakwater, the benches and the fish house are free to use and are shared by the guests in both cabins. What attractions/day trips are nearby? You can read a little about this on the Dalsfjord page, and we can give you more suggestions on destinations near and far. If you want to take a short walk nearby, you can walk around Vassbakkane (gravel path) or up to Nobba (forest path). From Steinsvik/Åmelfot you can also drive all the way up the mountain by car. In the summer we recommend a hike to Galten and Kornbergveten near Folkestad. From there you have a panoramic view of the entire region. Ask us, and we will give you directions and tips on where to go! How do I use the large outdoor tub at Neset? This requires a little preparation. First you need to fill the tub with the water hose. This takes 3.5 hours. Then you need to use the wood stove to heat the water. This requires 5-7 bags of firewood and takes most of the day, depending on the season and temperature. It's best to start planning a day in advance. Ask us for help on how best to do this. We'll come over and show you some tips and tricks. PS! It's very nice to sit in the pool once the temperature is high. I'll be back. Can I leave some of my equipment with you for next time? Sure! We have plenty of storage space at our old farm. We can store your equipment there for you free of charge - at your own risk. You can lock it with a padlock. Note that the temperature in the storage facility can drop below zero in winter. |
